Drawing inspiration from the Great American Songbook, Manhattan Transfer, and timeless tunes from the 1940’s, Bob likes to reimagine familiar melodies with a fresh, modern sensibility.
Each of his arrangements is crafted with a deep sense of care for the non-professional singer. They are beautiful to sing; challenging enough to offer growth; and yet have vocal ranges that are accessible with ease. He designs music to be satisfying, achievable and soulfully expressive for singers in quartets and choruses alike. About Bob
Bob O’Connell is a passionate arranger and performer whose musical roots run deep in both classical and popular traditions. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Lowell with degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance, Bob lit up the college stage in lead operatic and musical theater roles including Figaro (Marriage of Figaro), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Lancelot (Camelot).
Bob has spent decades entertaining as a singer/pianist in a variety of lounge settings across the United States, establishing a lifelong career in music. He currently directs two Rhode Island a cappella BHS and Harmony Inc. choruses: Narragansett Bay Chorus and Harmony Heritage. Bob was the Lead singer in Road Show, a NEDistrict Champ quartet and International Competitor, as well as Lead with Trade Secret, a top-five International Seniors Quartet in the Barbershop Harmony Society.
He is the composer of two original albums available on this site: Prelude to a Dream and A New Dawning.
